Well it seems that the Harvest Moon spin-off series will be continuing with its newest addition being developed for the 3DS. This week’s Famitsu magazine has revealed the upcoming title.
In this game you will be able to choose whether to be a male or female protagonist. The male’s name is Les, while the female is called Frey. Despite assigning names to their protagonists, past games have allowed you to name them whatever you like, so I assume Rune Factory 4 will follow that trend. Both appear to have the same origin story, which involves losing their memory. Les and Frey also have the uncanny ability to communicate with dragons and at the start of the story live life as a temporary prince or princess.
Due to them being royalty a new building construction system has been added to the game where you spend prince/princess points to construct buildings. You can create a blacksmith, ornament building, or ourhealthissues online pharmacy. Buildings draw in tourists and your character gets a rating depending on how many people show up. “Beginner Prince/Princess” is the starting title. When in the field you can explore RF4’s 3D maps and plant crops anywhere, you aren’t limited to a grid this time. Once you find a nice field to farm in, you can plant crops in whatever formation you choose. You can even grow giant crops.
The biggest addition to the game is the sweetheart system. You no longer need to figure out what partner you are going to marry and how to woo them enough to get them to become your spouse. In RF4 it will be possible to date multiple people until you figure out which one of them you want to spend eternity with. Memorable love moments in the game are actually tracked while you are dating. A feature called Doki Doki Zoom (doki doki is the onomatopoeia of a beating heart in Japanese) zooms in on scenes so you can see the facial expressions of the characters. You can take dates on picnics too and if you’re lucky you might get a love confession.
According to Marvelous the game is 50% complete and will release in Japan later this year. No confirmation on when we will see the game in the US, but if its like most Harvest Moon or Rune Factory titles we should get it anywhere from 6 months to a year later. And YES, you will get to tame monsters to help you in the game!
