Saw this article on 1UP.com and wanted to repost it for our readers. I have always enjoyed the Kevin Butler marketing campaign and I hope this is just another chapter in the campaign. If not, you will be missed Mr. VP of EVERYTHING! The Best Kevin Butler moment ever! Fictional Sony vice president Kevin Butler has revealed on Twitter that he has left his position for a new (also fictional) startup, Economy Flooring. Butler is a character played by actor Jerry Lambert. He debuted in a commercial for MLB 09: The Show in 2009 and has since appeared in several dozen commercials, most a part of the “It Only Does Everything” ad campaign. Each time he’s seen, he has a new job title, typically the vice president of a non-existent department. He’s been the VP of “Soiling Oneself in Excitement,” “Apologetic Apologies,” “Yes We Canada,” and the “Director of Rumor Confirmation.” He even showed up during Sony’s E3 press conference last year much to the delight of those in attendance. A Twitter account is kept in his name, and it’s on there that a pair of unusual tweets were sent out earlier today. The first reads, “A man can only [...]

Today, a friend of mine called Neo Querty pointed out an older study regarding MMORPGs and the stereotypes associated with them (I say ‘older’ because this was from 2009, which is ancient in modern standards). This, of course, begs the age-old question of whether MMORPG really does stand for “Mostly Men Online Role-Playing Girls” or whether that is, and always has been, total trash? I actually agree with some of the comments on that article, particularly as they relate to the inaccuracies in the original BBC story which it cites, yet I think there are some truths there too. I do think that the MMORPG market is still male-dominated, but I think it’s not as quite male-oriented as we might think. It probably is somewhere in the 60-40 range in favor of males and, as others have said, women just aren’t quite as vocal as males about their interest in these sorts of games. So, while some female characters are no doubt played by males (for various reasons, including simply having something aesthetically pleasing to look at – can you blame them?), many are controlled by females, and I am sure the same is true. I know that people have [...]
