Star Trek – Infinite Space

While talking with fellow Anjel Syndicate writer Jessica “Allahweh” Brown today, she mentioned a new Free to Play Star Trek game called “infinite Space.” I had never heard about this project before so I decided to do a little internet spelunking.   Some facts popped up:

  • The game is developed by a company called Keen Games and will be published by Gameforge, one of Europe’s larger game companies.
  • Several Star Trek alum are involved, including Mike and Denies Okudo as well as series writer Lee Sheldon.
  • It is set during the Dominion War, one of the cooler story arcs of the Star Trek cannon that the movies never really touched.
  • A player actually creates an avatar  and selects between the Federation and the Klingon Empire.
  • 1 player equals 1 ship. Each player receives their own ship that progressively becomes better as the game goes on.
  • Chris Hülsbeck will be doing the score for the game.
The game is suppose to launch this summer but I am unsure if that that will happen.  The summer is pretty far on and the main website is still asking for beta participants. We’ll see what happens.  Below is the teaser trailer from the website.

Will this game be a casula competitor to Star Trek Online?  What if STO goes free to play as well?  This game seems to have the backing of some great Star Trek vets. I’d like to actually play the game and see how it will turn out.   I wasn’t overly impressed with Star Trek Online so Star Trek – Infinite Space might be able to out do that offering.
