Independent developer Strange Loop Games, in collaboration with indiePub, today announced plans to release its groundbreaking liquid physics puzzle game Vessel on PC March 1, through digital distribution platforms including Steam and StrangeLoopGames.com. A finalist in both the 13th Annual Independent Game Festival and the 2010 Indie Game Challenge, Vessel allows players to solve puzzles by bringing to life physically-simulated liquid (water, lava, glowing goo, chemicals and more) and animating it into living machines called Fluros. Using the innovative Vessel engine, these liquid creatures demonstrate physics capabilities not seen in other video games. Each Fluro possesses a body composed entirely of physically simulated fluid that provides them with unique abilities including melting, reforming, mixing with other types of fluid, and re-growing lost limbs. By choosing how and where to bring liquid to life, players can solve puzzles and progress in this fantastic, mechanical world. “With Vessel, we wanted to push the boundaries of how hardware power is used in games,” said Vessel designer and Strange Loop Games co-founder John Krajewski. “Typically, hardware power put towards graphics and physics is only an aesthetic addition. In Vessel, the foundation of the gameplay and puzzles is based in liquid simulation.” In Vessel, players [...]

We only used a portion of the categories featured at tomorrow night’s award show, but we chose the ones that we thought were the most important categories. Jessica “Allahweh” Brown – Review Editor Studio of the Year - BETHESDA Best Shooter of the Year - GEARS OF WAR 3 Best Independent Game of the Year - MINECRAFT Best RPG of the Year - ELDER SCROLLS V: SKYRIM Game of the Year for 2011 - ZELDA: SKYWARD SWORD Most Anticipated Game of 2012 - THE LAST GUARDIAN and GUILD WARS 2 Jessica’s Top 5 Picks for 2011 MINECRAFT - Minecraft has evolved into one of the most unique PC gaming experiences I’ve ever seen, and the sheer amount of mods produced by the fans and the creativity they’ve come up with blows me away nearly every day. Even just exploring the randomly-generated worlds in Minecraft can prove to be a wonderfully fun experience. I think it will prove to be the type of game that will [...]

The Humble Bundles keep on rolling, with a new ‘pay what you want’ indie mega-bargain arriving mere weeks after the last one wrapped up. The new Humble Introversion Bundle packs four games from English indie Introversion: hacking sim Uplink, RTS Darwinia, its multiplayer sequel Multiwinia, and Cold War ‘em up Defcon. The Bundle also includes two Introversion tech demos, the procedural city generator used in Subversion and a voxel-based destructible building demo. As Subversion is on indefinite hold, it’ll be nice to get a good look at some of it at least. On top of that, if you pay over the average price, you’ll also score Humble Bundle veterans Aquaria and Crayon Physics Deluxe. The Bundle has already outsold Xbox Live Arcade’s Darwinia+ within 41 minutes on sale, Introversion revealed on Twitter. As ever, all games come DRM-free, but you can activate them on Steam if you fancy. And, as Humble Bundle tradition dictates, you can choose how you divvy up your money between the developers, organizers, and the Child’s Play charity and the EFF. Head on over to Humble Bundle to name your price.

Attention all Indies: Steel Storm, the premier franchise by Kot in Action Creative Artel, is opening its doors to 3rd party (including indie) game developers. Steel Storm: Burning Retribution is a top down action shooter with old school spirit. It marks the return of top-down shooters with new twists. The game has score oriented competitive gameplay, and is designed for people who like fast paced action, hordes of smart enemies, destructible worlds and ground shaking explosions. We see an opportunity to bring Steel Storm to other genres and platforms and artistic/media formats, but we are working on new games (See our blog at http://kot-in-action.com for details on these!) and cannot split our time between two major projects. Therefore we look to other game developers to keep the torch moving.
Rampant Games has released Frayed Knights: The Skull of S’makh-Daon, the game and demo are available at http://rampantgames.com/frayedknights/. Frayed Knights: The Skull of S’makh-Daon is a 3D indie computer RPG for Windows (and, soon, Mac) featuring turn-based combat, old-school sensibilities, and a story of high adventure and comedy. Who says RPGs have to be so serious? About the Game: In a world of jaded heroes and veteran adventurers, you play a team of misfits: Arianna, a dainty warrior with an attitude problem; Dirk, an adrenaline-junky rogue who doesn’t seem to understand the word ‘subtle;’ Benjamin, a nature-priest and an ill-suited newcomer to the adventuring lifestyle, and Chloe, a ditsy sorceress with a love of cute, fuzzy animals and setting her enemies on fire. Adventuring is always a dangerous profession, but recently things have gotten bad. Very bad. Teams of expert fortune-hunters are getting “morted,” suffering great losses against enemies that are better prepared than ever. In the taverns and Adventurer’s Guildhalls, whispered rumors speak of the return of an evil that once all but destroyed civilization. But as many great and famous adventurers fall to this growing threat, perhaps this bunch of losers – called “The Frayed Knights” (but never [...]
