To coincide with the launch of the Doritos Dip Desperado Facebook game, Doritos commissioned 2,052 people to partake in a survey on gaming. The study has found that women who play online games prefer their gaming sessions to taking a bath, shopping, working out – and having sex. The study also found that 49% of women play online games, almost matching the 50% of men that game online. Of these female gamers, 84% said they enjoy their gaming sessions compared to the 70% who enjoy sex, 62% who enjoy working out, 71% who enjoy shopping and 75% who enjoy taking a bath. And nearly one in five female gamers (17 %) admitted they play online games in bed. Another amazing statistic was that women even play online longer than men do. The participants spend an average of 3.5 hours playing online games each week. 23.1% of women’s time online is spent gaming, compared with 22.3% for men. “Social and mobile gaming is hugely popular and, as the survey reveals, amongst women as much as men,” said Doritos marketing manager Hugo Amos. “We wanted to create a game that is fun and entertaining for everyone. It will be exciting to see who [...]

This is one piece I’ve been kicking around in my head for quite a while now. I’ve put it off, I’ve been rather noticeably busy, I’ve made excuses, or quite simply I just wasn’t ready to put it all down. It’s not because I have trouble recalling everything that took place, or trouble writing it. It’s not because there’s some worry of terrible secrets being revealed or concerns I’ll say the same thing. What has held me back is because it was quite honestly one of the more transformative episodes of my professional life. I’d been drifting on the fringes of the game industry for years beforehand, mostly in the indie scene, consulting on projects in a story capacity, providing QA, did some freelance writing for a couple of published MMO’s. (Though that work is lost in the mists of time, only I and the people I wrote for might even remember). I even did some voice acting for a couple of indie projects, but nothing I’m going to talk about, since it was a long time ago and not really relevant. One step before Top Secret was the crew I dealt with who ran Pirate King Online, doing a [...]

Pulled this off the feeds this morning from MarketWatch, waiting to see more reports start rolling in before I totally accept it, and given the booboo that’s in the article. (Damn death of reliable journalism) Anywho going by this Mikey Mouse has gone from buying Marvel to Stubbs the Zombie. While it doesn’t surprise me that Uncle Walk is moving further into the gaming sector with this possible aquisistion it does make me start to wonder where they’re going to go next. Or more aptly who are they going to buy next? I know Disney has a respectable level of quality control usually (control being the operative word there) and they don’t limit themselves to purely children’s entertainment these days, it still makes me scratch my head and wonder not only what effect they will have on Marvel’s future releases but also the impact they will have on the Game Industry as they move further into the gaming sector. There’s also if they keep aquiring game studios, with Disney’s marketing aparatus and brand visibility I wonder if they will crowd out the smaller publishers and makers in the kids game market and other areas. Between Disney and EA (Evil Empires [...]
