Just six weeks after launching one of the most anticipated video games of all time, BioWare, a Label of Electronic Arts, is continuing to set new standards in online games with Star Wars: The Old Republic. Already the fastest growing subscription MMO ever, Star Wars: The Old Republic has sold over 2 million copies, with a thriving base of over 1.7 million active subscribers, as gamers around the world have immersed themselves in the story-driven, online Star Wars universe from BioWare and LucasArts. Helping drive The Old Republic’s early success has been the quality and reliability of the game’s service, with servers being available for more than 99.5% of the time outside of scheduled maintenance. BioWare has also delivered on the promise of continually adding new content by releasing Rise of the Rakghouls, which added new, higher level group content, less than 30 days after launch. The next game update, featuring even more content, new game systems and additional guild features, is scheduled to be released in Spring 2012. “We’re truly honored and humbled by the incredibly strong support from our players who are enjoying Star Wars: The Old Republic,” said Dr. Ray Muzyka, Co-Founder of BioWare and General Manager [...]

EA will be running a big system maintenance kicking off at 12am PST (4 am ADT, 3 am EST, 8 am GMT) tonight. From the News release: “A number of EA’s services will be temporarily unavailable on Tuesday, January 31 as we undergo a brief scheduled maintenance. If you play a game that requires you to log in to our servers, such as Battlefield 3 or Need for Speed The Run, you will need to wait until the maintenance period has concluded to begin playing again. Star Wars: The Old Republic will be offline for slightly longer due to a separate scheduled maintenance. EA games that can be played in Offline Mode should remain playable. Users will be unable to log in to the Origin client, Online Multi-Player game lobbies, or the Origin store while maintenance is taking place. As a result, you will be unable to purchase games or redeem codes during the maintenance window. Maintenance is scheduled to begin at 12:00 a.m. PST and end at 3:00 a.m. PST on January 31, 2012.“ So look out for that all you night owls and plan your game time accordingly.
Bioware and EA have released a new trailer titled Special Forces, which narrows down your choices a bit for the multi-player by confirming which races and classes will be available to players. It appears that each race will mirror one of the classes Shepard is able to play in the single player game such as the soldier and vanguard. Although the classes are repeated, the three abilities are still unique. The classes attached to the races highlights their specific strengths. For example Quarians are excellent engineers thus the Quarian is an engineer. Remember that the co-op multiplayer mode won’t be necessary to complete the single player game, but it can help you get the best ending much easier. Here is a full list of Races/Classes/Skills featured in the trailer: Human – Soldier Adrenaline Rush Concussive Shot Frag Grenade Quarian – Engineer Incinerate Cyro Blast Sentry Turret Drell – Vanguard Biotic Charge Pull Cluster Grenade Turian – Sentinel Warp Overload Tech Armor Asari – Vanguard Biotic Charge Stasis Lift Grenade Salarian – Infiltrator Energy Drain Tactical Cloak Proximity Mine Krogan – Soldier Carnage Fortification Inferno Grenade
