TITLE: “Warlock: Master of the Arcane” DEVELOPER: Ino-Co Plus PUBLISHER: Paradox Interactive GENRE: Fantasy Turn-Based Strategy PLATFORM: Microsoft Windows RATING: Not Yet Rated. TARGET RELEASE: Q2 2012 Ah, Paradox Interactive – a company that is no stranger to us here at Anjel Syndicate. The company certainly knows how to pump out new titles one after the other, but there are times when the overall quality of the games leaves something to be desired. Paradox is also an interesting beast – while they have created a spot for themselves, for better or for worse, as the creators of several historical strategy games (“Supreme Ruler: Cold War,” “Sengoku,” and the upcoming “Magna Mundi” to name but a few), they have also carved out a spot in other genres, namely with games like “Defenders of Ardania” and “Magicka.” This game falls into the “other” category as well, and is actually related to “Defenders of Ardania.” When first getting into this title, I wasn’t sure what to expect. “Defenders of Ardania” wasn’t a bad game, per se, but it really didn’t offer anything new to the genre of tower-defense games. So, when I saw that they were making a real-time strategy title in the [...]

I realize most of you know… well enough of you anyway know why sites have gone dark today. If not there are plenty of sites giving details as to exactly what SOPA and PIPA entail and why we are taking this stand against it. I will provide a few links at the end of this however for those who don’t really get it. For now though I will make a simple statement as to why I chose after discussing it with my staff to go dark with Anjel Syndicate. Yes, we are and have been working to cover gaming news, developments, and growing into gaming culture outside and beyond just video games. My vision for the site has always been about doing so as unbiased and in as balanced a manner as possible. That said, given the nature of these two bills, I can not, could not find a neutral stance to take in this case. To put an extreme example of how SOPA and/or PIPA being passed into law would affect us and other gaming media sites, I will make the attempt. We deal with copywritten material everyday with every screenshot we post, every trailer we upload [...]

What is SOPA? Many characterize it as a misguided effort to combat online piracy by using methods that will stifle innovation, suppress free speech, and even, in some cases, undermine national security. The Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA), also known as House Bill 3261, would expand the ability of U.S. law enforcement and copyright holders to fight online trafficking in copyrighted intellectual property and counterfeit goods. The methods that the bill would enable are what have many freedom watchers up in arms. As originally proposed the bill would allow the U.S. Department of Justice, as well as copyright holders, to seek court orders against websites accused of enabling or facilitating copyright infringement. Depending on who makes the request, the court order could include barring online advertising networks and payment facilitators such as PayPal from doing business with the allegedly infringing website, barring search engines from linking to such sites, and requiring Internet service providers to block access to such sites. The bill would make unauthorized streaming of copyrighted content a crime, with a maximum penalty of five years in prison for 10 such infringements within six months. The bill also gives immunity to Internet services that voluntarily take action against [...]

Greetings Friends, I know we have not been reporting on all the developments regarding SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act)/ PIPA (Protect IP Act). There are several reasons behind this, mainly would be that wealth of sites that have been covering the daily developments pretty much have you guys covered. Also being based in Canada though many of the writers are American, I haven’t been really looking into the whole developing story as I have more things to do than I have time to do them in. That said, we will be presenting a special article regarding the whole story , likely to go live tomorrow evening or Tuesday morning. Make no mistake, we are against the letter and the spirit of these two pieces of shi…legislation. They are the gateway steps to even more encompassing forms of censorship and control of information. Couple this with the recently signed NDAA (National Defense Authorization Act) with it’s indefinate detention and what not and the conspiracy theorist in me really starts to wonder where all of this is going. Mind you, that’s just playing a fast and loose game of connect the dots on my part, however you see my point. [...]

Yesterday, Anjel Syndicate‘s very own Warren Bennett took on the task of writing an extremely detailed review of “Star Wars: The Old Republic.” If you haven’t read that yet, I would recommend that you give it a look as it will likely answer many of the questions and address a lot of your concerns in regards to the game. I had my own thoughts on this game, and after speaking with him about it, I’ve decided to do what I’ll call a companion review to his one. He has covered things that I likely won’t get into and, likewise, I might mention a few things here that the other review didn’t. Hopefully, between our coverage, you will be able to have all of your questions answered and, if not, you know how to reach us. “Star Wars: The Old Republic” is a game that has been hyped up for years. As Warren pointed out, rumors of the game’s existence began to circulate as early as 2006 and once the project was confirmed in 2008 the hype took soar. BioWare at the time was well known for its handling of the “Knights of the Old Republic” game, so when it was [...]

TITLE: “Magna Mundi” DEVELOPER: Paradox Interactive GENRE: Real-Time Strategy (Single Player and Online Multiplayer) PLATFORM: Microsoft Windows RATING: Rating Pending PROJECTED RELEASE DATE: Q2 2012 Paradox Interactive seems to be hard at work developing titles for the PC and has garnered a reputation for their historical real-time strategy titles. In fact, at least according to their website, their strategy games account for all ten of their ten best-selling titles, eclipsing more action-oriented games like “Magika.” This is most likely due to the extreme attention to detail that the developers put into each of their games. The team responsible for these titles seems to do their homework on the various historical periods covered by their games and presents the end-user with a rich historical experience that can easily draw them into the game world. “Magna Mundi” is a game that has great ambition. It sets out to present the player with the ability to play through some of the most interesting phases of history in the modern era (defined in the historical sense). The first period of history that the game lets you explore is what they call “The Grand Campaign,” or the period of history that began on May 29, [...]

So here we are at the close of 2011, another year off the calendar, and what a hell of a year it’s been. There’s been a kinds of fantastic games to come out this year and of course all sorts of disappointments to come right along with the rest. There’s been all kinds of amazing events happening all over the world, from the rising of the people in Egypt to the death of Steve Jobs. 2011 has been a year full of great events, sad events, beginnings and endings. Most significantly for myself and for all of us here at Anjel Syndicate has of course been when we went active in June transforming the site from my personal blog to the gaming site that’s been taking shape since. 6 months in and we’ve made progress on that evolution, we’ve been getting our processes down, figuring out our writing styles and presentation of content on the site. We’ve had some great special segments written, we’ve brought some really interesting news to our readers, and of course we’ve been gaining new readers every time we’ve turned around. Certainly we have more work ahead of us as we go through [...]

Well 2012 is just around the corner and the Anjel Syndicate Staff thought it would be fun to share our “Video Gaming” New Year Resolutions with our readers. David “AnjelusX” Slauenwhite (Owner/Director) With 2012, I think my main Resolution would be to expand my gaming tastes and play some of the games in genre’s I normally don’t. I’ve always been more focused on certain types (RPGs, RTS, MMOs etc) I think 2012 will be the year to move out of my gaming comfort zone and explore the rest of the gaming world. Complete all the games I’ve had sitting in the backlog would be a good one too, haha (Like that’s gonna happen) Lastly, I think getting back into the design and development business would be another resolution for the year, I’ve been away from it for a while, and it might be time to open up some of my time to get back into it. I have stories I want to tell through games and it’s time to start looking into getting that going again. Jessica “Allahweh” Brown (Review Editor) Do a better job balancing time between MMOs and console games. Do a better job balancing my spare time [...]

TITLE: “Mega Man X” DEVELOPER: Capcom Co., Ltd. GENRE: Action/Platformer PLATFORM: iOS RATING: Ages 4 and up. RELEASE DATE: December 20, 2011 (Version 1.0) It’s no secret that 2011 has not been a good year for Mega Man fans. Early in the year “Mega Man Universe,” an HD remix of the much-loved “Mega Man 2″ with all sorts of updates, was cancelled part way through development by Capcom. Then, after a lot of excitement about “Mega Man Legends 3″ coming to the 3DS, Capcom also announced that game’s retirement. Reasons cited for these things included little support from the fans and the belief that these games weren’t going to be viable products, but that only seems to be the icing on the cake. The reality is that fans did want to see those games come about, but Capcom most likely had a bone to pick with Keiji Inafune who departed the company not terribly long ago. With this in mind, some fans have been calling the iOS port of “Mega Man X” a poor consolation prize to the fans. The potential was there for a fun, original iOS game that was squandered. It seems that Capcom is on thin ice [...]
