Nintendo did a lot to set themselves up for a successful holiday. December, and the preceding months saw the releases of some of the most popular Nintendo franchises as well as the introduction of the popular Amiibo lineup. Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. for WiiU were the biggest contributors of software sales on the WiiU, while Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire led the pack on 3DS, both of which have sold over 2 million units.Amiibo’s also helped Nintendo’s year end sales with nearly twice the sales of Super Smash Bros. for WiiU.
Nintendo hopes to carry this momentum into 2015 with the launches of Splatoon, Yoshi’s Woolly World, Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. and Mario Party 10. Also quickly approaching is February 13, which brings the launch of the New 3DS XL and The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D.
