Edgar Rice Burroughs, for the unitiated, was the guy that brought us Tarzan. He also gave us the stories of John Carter – a Confederate soldier who found himself on Barsoom, which we would call Mars. His adventures there helped lay the foundations that we take for granted in science fiction today, and the awesome people at Modiphius Entertainment are giving us the tabletop roleplaying game that lets us go back to where it all started. They’re using the 2d20 LITE system, which is a simpler version that they used in Mutant Chronicles and Conan. To quote their press release:
Explore the wonders of Barsoom from the vast deserts to the ancient cities. Discover the forgotten secrets of a world that was old when life first spawned in the oceans of Earth. Play as pilots, warriors, scientists, or one of the terrifying green Tharks. Create you own Barsoom adventures or take on the great journeys as John Carter himself along side Dejah Thoris, Kantos Kan, Xodar, Tars Tarkas, Thuvia of Ptarth, Carthoris of Helium or any of the other major heroes and heroines of Barsoom.
In addition to a Christmas release for the main book, they’re going to have a miniatures game based in the universe out in the Spring, and a board game in the summer.
