[Anime] Puzzle and Dragons Cross Episode One Preview

This anime series is based on the Match 3 RPG game from GungHo that is available on mobile phones and the Nintendo 3DS. I was surprised at how well this anime looked and how well the story is so far. The series reminds me more of the version of the game on the 3DS because of the story elements. Our MC is Ace and he can see drops in his surroundings, plus he has a unique ability to know which foods at the market are the freshest. One day he hears his best friend’s cat calling to him for help and he also hears another voice calling out to him. His best friend is a girl named Hal who dreams of becoming a Dragon Caller, yet she hasn’t yet received the ability to see drops. On this particular day a world famous Dragon Caller named Lance is spotted in town by Hal and she is in awe of meeting him. Ace meanwhile hasn’t told Hal that he can see drops, and doesn’t seem to have the desire to become a Dragon Caller, After he follows the voice he keeps hearing he finds a huge egg with a yellow star on it.His mother tells him he can’t keep it and as he is trying to figure out what to do with it he comes across Lance and the military getting ready to fight a dragon. It seems that their is a love/hate relationship between Callers and the Military. As Lance is battling the dragon, Ace is watching from the distance and is able to see the drops that Lance uses to power up his dragons for battle. Lance’s mascot Devi is shocked to find out that Ace is able to see everything Lance is doing. When Lance gets into a situation where he needs more water drops, somehow Ace is able to make more appear. Overall I loved the vibe of this episode and how well they turned a Match 3 game into an anime. The colors are vibrant and it has a nice family feel to it. If you are a fan of Puzzles and Dragons or even a fan of series such as Digimon or Pokemon, I think you will like this one. I gave this episode a 4 out of 5!
