Love Live sunshine

Summary

Having been inspired by the school idol group Muse, Chika Takami, a second-year student at Uranohoshi Girls’ Academy, tries to start her own School Idol Club. As Chika and her friend Y? Watanabe try to recruit members, she faces resistance from the student council president, Dia Kurosawa, who states she will not approve such a club. Later that day, Chika comes across a girl from Tokyo, explaining to her how she became inspired by Muse, who showed her how normal people could shine. Inspired by her story, the girl introduces herself as Riko Sakurauchi, a transfer student from Otonokizaka Academy, the same school Muse attended. After You decides to become the first new member of the School Idol Club, Riko transfers into Chika’s class but declines her invitation to her club.

My Reaction

So going into this episode I had no experience with Love Live! I never watched the other seasons nor was I familiar with the story. I honestly have to say that I was glad I gave this a chance. Love Live! Sunshine!! has a very nice vibe to it. It reminds me a lot of AKB0048 in where you see the dreams of a young girl come to life. Chika wanting to better herself and not wanting to be just “normal” makes for a good story. I am drawn to stories about underdogs realizing they can make their dreams come true. When Chika declares “I want to Shine!”, I felt the powerful determination she has to become someone special.

The OP and ED had a nice rhythm to it and fits well with the series and the scenes look very smooth.  The The animation and background art really caught my eye, the sunset was very beautifully done.

The characters are likeable and relatable. Chika really took the stage in this episode, but the brief moments from the other characters left a memorable impression too. The cast seems to be a rather lively bunch and that will definitely make this season a lot of fun!

Overall I really enjoyed Love Live! Sunshine!! and plan to marathon the first two seasons to get a better feel for the franchise. Really great start to the series and it deserves a 4 out of 5!
